Who Wants to Marry a Sickly Man?

This story will go VIP on May 1. I'll post three chapters that day. Thanks for your support, and a bow of gratitude! Lin Zhinan, the young princess of Nanyang from the Prince of Pingnan's household, grew up in the southern borderlands. Her status was exceptionally noble, and she was betrothed to the crown prince at birth. She feared nothing. She could do it all, from chasing cats and dogs to climbing trees and wading through rivers, and she excelled at every bit of it. Every few days, her father would chase her through the streets with a stick, while her tutor was so worried he couldn't sleep at night. He often said that when this young princess was sent to the royal capital to marry, she might well tear every glazed tile off the palace roof! Lin Zhinan scoffed at the idea. Who would want to marry a sickly weakling who looked ready to collapse in a breeze? Then, when she was seven, her family was destroyed. Lin Zhinan could only hide in a Taoist temple, disguised as a young Taoist. One afternoon, she jolted awake from a nightmare and saw a young boy crouching under a tree. She tossed a pebble at him and asked, "What are you doing?" The boy looked up. In the warm winter sunlight, he looked like a delicate porcelain doll, exquisitely beautiful. He smiled at her with crescent-shaped eyes and asked, "Little Taoist, have you seen my cat?" His smile was so dazzling that Lin Zhinan lost her footing and fell from the tree. Years later, Lin Zhinan carried a cat and landed in front of him on the glazed tiles atop the palace roof. He set down his memorial, looked up at her, and smiled as before. "You found it for me again." Lin Zhinan dropped the cat, picked up a cloak and draped it over him, then took his hand and led him toward the bedchamber. Softening her voice, she said, "The wind's picking up. Hurry back inside." "But the memorials..." "Read them tomorrow." "The fighting in Western Qin is urgent..." "I'll ride to the border tonight, burn down their camp, and send that general back home!" "Cough, cough, cough..." "Look, you're coughing again. Be good and get some sleep."
