I Raised Several Kids in Republican-Era China

Zhao Lingling transmigrated into a world made up of several novels. She treasured this unexpected second life immensely. To make her life more comfortable, she often used her knowledge of the plots to collect the scraps the protagonists had left behind: gold, silver, and jewels. The early parts of the novels were far too dark, so she often helped a few poor little souls along the way. Poor little soul No. 1 was a street vendor who sold pear-paste candy. He had no shoes on his feet. When he grew up, he became a top tycoon, but he never forgot the gift his childhood sweetheart had once given him. He built a high-tech fortress to store old shoes and clothes. Poor little soul No. 2 was a young master in a wheelchair, confined to a small back courtyard to study. When he grew up, he became a world-famous miracle doctor with magical hands. He named his miraculous medicines after the dates his childhood sweetheart had teased him. No one knew that the only tenderness in the doctor's heart had forged an iron wall against those incurable diseases. Poor little soul No. 3 was a young performer sold in a burlap sack. When he grew up, he became a top movie star, with extraordinary skills and control of an underground kingdom. He had three faces: one adored by countless followers, one dark and bloody, and one quietly cherishing memories of his childhood sweetheart. A young girl with an oil-paper umbrella walked briskly along the narrow old lane paved with stone slabs. She glanced back and smiled, lighting up the age. The little ones would live for her and die for her, fearing neither blade mountains nor seas of fire. Or perhaps they themselves were the blade mountains and seas of fire. Sometimes they could destroy the world for a grand celebration. More often, they turned from Satan into angels and showered the world with sunshine, all for the sake of a single smile from her. Set in a fictional Republican-era China.
