The Kingdom of Heaven: A Sacred Realm of the Soul

A born enemy is also the one you love most. One glance, and the rest of your lives are bound together. Eight years is a fleeting moment for an ordinary person, but a third of his life for him. They regard, scheme against, and love one another. Together, they defend the sanctuary of their hearts: Jerusalem. Baldwin IV: "Our bond is impossible to unravel. You are the reason I hold fast to this holy city." Saladin: "You are the radiance of my holiness. With you, Jerusalem comes closer to the sanctuary in my heart." Baldwin IV: "If God would grant me permission to leave just once, I would wish to walk with you from Damascus to Jerusalem, from the one you love to where I began, step by step toward the holy city that belongs to us both." Saladin: "Now that our souls have left their bodies, fate has given us the chance to make a pilgrimage together to the sanctuary of our hearts. My love, will you come with me?"
