Dream of the Red Chamber: The Virtuous Consort

The new emperor ascended the throne and lavishly bestowed titles upon his harem. When the decree reached Fengzao Palace, its mistress was made a consort and given the title Virtuous. The mistress of Fengzao Palace spat at once. “Virtuous? That's supposed to be an insult, isn't it?” The new emperor dutifully attended her bedchamber for two nights before revealing the secret: “Virtuous Consort. One name on the selection board counts as two. That's a bargain for me.” Theme: Don't drink tea from a thousand red flowers; don't drink wine from ten thousand beauties.
