The Only One Who Makes My Heart Flutter

Arrogant Boy x Sweet, Shy Girl

The shop downstairs was being renovated.

Every time Lin Ran passed by, she could feel a scorching gaze fixed on her.

She followed it to a group of construction workers gathered together, eating or chatting.

The most eye-catching among them was a boy with a crew cut.

His features were sharp and fierce, and he lounged with one leg crossed, looking brazen and unruly.

Lin Ran knew his name was Lu Wubie.

That year, Lu Wubie was down on his luck, his proud spirit broken.

-

A summer night.

Fireflies danced beneath the crescent moon, high in the dark sky screen.

Lu Wubie leaned against a tree, several empty liquor bottles at his feet. The distant streetlights mingled with the bright moonlight, illuminating his face in shifting light and shadow.

A cigarette between his fingers, he took a drag and looked at Lin Ran through the haze. His eyes gave nothing away, and one corner of his mouth curled up, three parts roguish and seven parts teasing, as he asked, "Miss Lin, do you like me?"

Lin Ran nodded.

Lu Wubie's expression grew more subdued, but he kept up his irreverent tone. "Then, how about you come with me?"

Lin Ran said, "I will."

Lu Wubie tossed away his cigarette and stamped it out. The usually domineering, unreasonable boy's eyes suddenly reddened as he reached out and pulled Lin Ran tightly into his arms.

-

Years later, Lu Wubie had made a name for himself in business. A reporter interviewed Mr. Lu, eager to learn the secret of his success.

Dressed in a suit and tie, Lu Wubie smiled at the camera, looking every bit the composed gentleman.

He said, "When I was nineteen, I fell for a girl. I told her, 'Come with me, and I'll give you a good life.'"

"That silly girl believed me."

As he spoke, he turned to look at Lin Ran beside him, his gaze intent and full of affection. He said softly, "I had to become someone worthy of her."
