Lian Zhen has a heart condition, and every doctor says she won't live to see twenty. On her deathbed, her mother clutched her hand and urged her, "Go to Longqian Mountain and find the mountain god. He will surely save you."
People say that a deity lives on Longqian Mountain, and that anyone who makes a pact with him can have their wish granted.
Lian Zhen frowned. She had heard the legend, but the version she knew was different...
"They say he's an evil god who pulls out people's bones, drinks their blood, and eats little boys and girls."
Her mother gently shook her head. "No. He's a... softhearted god."
Zhan Yue was once a revered deity in the mortal world, but someone he trusted betrayed him, gouged out his heart, stripped his bones, and sealed his soul on Longqian Mountain.
Later, the one who had harmed him became the leader of the immortal sects, praised by thousands. Meanwhile, he remained trapped in the mountain, branded an evil spirit by the people.
He once thought he would be imprisoned there for all eternity, until that day...
The girl he'd saved by chance crossed a path of thorns and held out her bloodied, mangled hand to him, grinning broadly.
"I've come to take my god home."
