Wanwan

The first time Shen Zhizhou met Wanwan, she wasn't called Wanwan yet.

The little girl wore a plastic sandal with half its sole missing. She blinked her clear, limpid eyes at him without saying a word, her gaze as empty as if she had no life in her.

That day, the operation to wipe out the drug cartel ended in a great victory. His spoils, however, were this little girl.

"Let's call you Wanwan."

After that, people would always ask, "Wanwan, who is he?"

And Wanwan would answer in her soft little voice, "Brother Zhizhou."

She called Shen Zhizhou that for ten years.

Later, he held the little girl's chin and said, "Wanwan, it's time you called me something else."
