One year, Taihu Lake yielded an abundant catch, and the people presented dozens of fish to the King of Wu. The king was delighted and ordered his ministers to gather for a banquet. Halfway through the feast, he thought of his young daughter and ordered someone to bring her to his couch. Later, when he went to visit her, he learned that she had hanged herself. Overcome with grief, he was inconsolable. The Spring and Autumn Annals of Wu and Yue records: A pit was dug and filled with earth to make a hill. She was buried with great ceremony outside Chang Gate, with the famous sword Panying laid to rest beside her.
