Playing the Game with Intent

1. The young master of the Chi family moved to Huaicheng and lived alone in a secluded corner, keeping his distance from his clan. He loved a lively atmosphere, so his home was brightly lit every night and always bustling with people. Chi Du was generous with money and always had a new girlfriend by his side, but everyone knew he was heartless. No one could truly enter his heart. Nearby, the slums were a jumble of all kinds of people. With the demolition looming, threats and fights were a regular occurrence, and bloodshed was nothing unusual. Wen Xue clawed her way out of the mud and wanted nothing more than a better life. One drizzly spring night, she held a calico kitten in her arms and knocked on Chi Du's door. Chi Du leaned against the doorway, barely looking at her. Neither of them spoke. The silence was broken first by the cat in her arms: The kitten was as fluffy as a little sponge cake, but when it spoke, it had a smoky voice: "Meow!" Chi Du laughed, thinking the person in front of him had quite an imagination. 2. Everyone thought Chi Du was only playing around. What sincerity could a gold-digger from the slums possibly have? She was only after his money. He could just pay her off. What was the point of talking about love? Who could have guessed that in the end, Chi Du would be the one who loved more deeply? It had all been a trap Wen Xue had laid to lure him in. She remade him from the inside out, changing even a cold-hearted man, then calmly walked away. She left him here. She set off boldly for the next journey across mountains and seas, leaving him alone in this dark, rotten corner. 3. They met again at a product launch. Chi Du's words were barbed: "Miss Wen's name and nature contradict each other. How can snow be warm? Snow is always cold. The moment it warms up, it melts." The supervisor was sweating buckets, unable to understand how Wen Xue had offended him so badly that he would abandon all decorum and make an issue of her name. Only Wen Xue knew that once there had been a young man who had loved her to the bone, letting her decide whether he lived or died, letting her conquer him completely.
