After waking up one morning, Izz, an introverted, gloomy shut-in and permanent fixture in the lab, an unremarkable commoner wizard, finds himself being confessed to by the academy's most popular boy, Alphas, heir to the Plantagenet dynasty.
The unexpected stroke of luck sends Izz's heart racing, leaving him dizzy and confused. He sees the academy's heartthrob gazing at him with deep affection. "Isidore, will you be with me?"
I will! Of course I will! Isidore will!
...Wait, who's Isidore?
Izz is completely bewildered. Who am I? How did I get here? Where are my memories?
Izz signs three contracts with a fraud in demon's clothing.
The first contract: In exchange for his memories, he asks for the person he loves to love him in return.
The second contract: In exchange for his magical talent, he demands that the rich and poor, the highborn and the lowborn, switch places, and that the decaying dynasty make way for justice and freedom.
The third contract: The demon whispers in his ear, "Memories are the past, talent is the future. You've already lost your past and your future. What else can you put up as a stake?"
By then, he has contracted a deadly plague and suffered utter humiliation. The person he loved has found his true love, while his family and friends have all turned to ashes along with his homeland.
Alphas is as elegant as ever, yet presses a cold blade to his neck. "Izz, his soul is withered, and his spiritual flame is nearly extinguished. You owe him a debt of gratitude. I'll borrow your spiritual flame now."
The wind sweeps across the highlands of Merlin, carrying flakes of snow. Izz stands alone. "So this is how you borrow it? Alphas, what if I refuse?"
Alphas replies gently, "You may refuse. That's why I came to take it myself."
