So many readers have told me that after reading A Vow to the Buddha, a Vow to You, they went looking for biographies of Kumarajiva, the sutras he translated, and the history of the Sixteen Kingdoms I wrote about. So many people actually read those rather dry Buddhist texts and history books because they fell in love with this novel.
So I thought, why not write a more accessible, easy-to-read collection of historical essays myself? I plan to cover three topics:
1. The places Kumarajiva traveled
2. People who lived in Kumarajiva’s time
3. Kumarajiva and the development of Chinese Buddhism
This is not a novel, but a collection of historical essays for readers who enjoyed A Vow to the Buddha, a Vow to You. I hope I can explain a stretch of dry history and an abstruse Buddhist scripture in an accessible way, weaving in the places he traveled. Brew a cup of tea in the afternoon and read at your leisure. Let your restless heart slow down, and join Xiaochun in retracing the journey of Kumarajiva’s heart…
This work is also on Xiaochun’s blog. It’s complicated to post pictures on Jinjiang, so you can visit my blog to see the related photos. Xiaochun’s travel and fiction blog.

No more content? Following in the footsteps of living up to the Tathagata and living up to your Majesty, I couldn't calm down for a long time after reading it. Because the author got to know Luo Shi, he became interested in Buddhist scriptures. For the first time in his life, he consulted many Buddhist scriptures and collected many pictures of Luo Shi. He also wanted to have time to go to Xinjiang, walk the path Luo Shi walked, and blow the wind he blew.
Hello Xiaochun, I live up to the Tathagata and you have become friends with me since my college days. Now I have been working hard in the floating world for more than four years. I feel ashamed that I have gained nothing in my career. Fortunately, I have peace of mind and don't have many desires. At the end of December, I spent a week simply walking down the southern Xinjiang line. In addition to the beautiful crossroads of Kashgar, the purpose of visiting Kuqa today was to visit the footprints of Kumarajiva. Standing at the ruins of the Subash West Temple, you can see the scenic beauty of Kucha 1,700 years ago. Thank you for bringing this novel to me when I was a boy. Maybe I was once moved by this fabricated love that spanned thousands of years, but now I care more about his anecdotes about Buddhism and even the influence on the culture of the Central Plains. Not only can you see it as a Buddha, but the commentator of Kizil Thousand Buddha Cave also knows that you know this novel. It is the coldest time of the year in southern Xinjiang right now. I almost booked the whole place with my gay friends, and I felt so moved and unspeakable. I sincerely hope that this good work will remain on paper and not become a popular fast-food TV series. That would be a blasphemy to it and even to you. Thanks again!
I have read this article a long time ago. Even though it has been so many years, I still read it out from time to time. This book is probably the most detailed article I have ever read. If, thousands of years later, monks can get wives now, and several saints get together, Roche will probably be envious and jealous.
Life is like a fleeting moment.
When I was in the first grade of junior high school, my Chinese teacher recommended "Live Up to the Tathagata, Live Up to Your Majesty" to me. It was not locked at that time... Three years later, I wanted to review it and found that it was locked... Emmmmmm
I read this book when I was in middle school. I read it many times later and was moved every time. I will graduate from graduate school this year and will be working soon, but I am still moved by this novel and this story. Thank you Xiaochun!
I have a lot of feelings about living up to my responsibilities.
I followed and lived up to my expectations. . I really want to go to Kuqa, go to Lu County, go to the stupa, and see the mark of Rosh with my own eyes.
I like Roche, Roche, a fascinating man and a well-deserved master.
"Live Up to the Tathagata, Live Up to Your Majesty" is a very good work and very touching! If I could let go of the secular world, I hope to visit Kumarajiva's hometown and his persevering footprints. But there are always some desires and desires in my heart that I can't let go of, so I am entangled in the worldly misery all day long and cannot extricate myself. After going to Xiaochun's blog, I can see that Xiaochun has a husband who is very considerate of her and loves her. Life is short and true love is hard to find. Ai Qing and Xiaochun are happy when love comes out; because sometimes even if you are willing to give everything, the other person may not respond to you. An Australian friend is a strong believer in Buddhism and goes to India several times a year to worship Buddha. He will start his journey again next week. He is thinking that if I have the opportunity, I also want to visit the legendary Tianzhu.
