In the seventy-third year of Jiabao, the brave and battle-hardened General Dai Changtian pacified the realm and brought the four corners of the land to heel, giving the people the long-awaited peace.
The people rallied behind him and made him emperor. He named his reign Fengtian.
In the third year of Fengtian, the emperor was blessed with a daughter. Her mother hoped she would live in a peaceful and prosperous age, and pass her life in comfort and safety, so she named her Wangshu, with the courtesy name Sihua.
The little princess Wangshu could dance at four, recite poetry at seven, and had mastered music, chess, calligraphy, and painting by the age of ten. The emperor placed great hopes in her, so he arranged her betrothal to Jun Mowang, the son of the Grand General of the South. They would marry when Jun Mowang turned twenty-one and Dai Wangshu turned eighteen.
