All My Fellow Students Wear Fine Silks

When Han Qi learned that he would have to share a room with the biggest young master in the capital, he wanted no part of it. He'd worked so hard to get into the Imperial College, after all.

But the headmaster persuaded him again and again, so Han Qi decided to reform this fellow townsman, who was said to bully men and women and commit every imaginable evil, with the Four Books and Five Classics.

And so...

"Confucius said, 'Be loyal and trustworthy... Do not befriend those who are not your equal...'" Han Qi said, his hands trembling as he bowed.

"Confucius my ass. Quit making noise and let me sleep." All he got in reply was the pent-up anger of Gu Chengze, who'd been forced to come to Bailu Academy and was still hungover.

Cowardly Qi decided he would never speak to his rich roommate again.

Later...

"Confucius said, 'The gentleman is broad-minded, while the petty man is constantly troubled.'" Han Qi gripped the quilt in his hands.

"Confucius also said, 'In life we share a quilt, and in death we share a grave. And when studying, we share a bed.'" Gu Chengze shamelessly made it up.

"Which Confucius?"

"Gu Confucius."
