[An innocent, cheerful plant breeder x a gentle, refined perfumer. Weibo: @Jinjiang Muxiaobu]
In search of distinctive scents that could be extracted from plants and used as ingredients in perfume, Shen Siyue traveled from one flower-breeding base to another. For two years, he found nothing.
Just as he was about to give up, he heard about a place called Qingxi, home to an exceptionally talented plant breeder.
He went there with his last hope, and met a young woman wearing a straw hat and sun sleeves. Sweating all over, she was pushing a cart.
The cart was piled high with all kinds of flowering plants, stacked like a small mountain. The woman put all her strength into running, failed to watch where she was going, and bumped into him, apologizing over and over.
A perfumer's sense of smell was sharper than an ordinary person's. Shen Siyue took a potted flower from the cart.
The blossom looked listless, but its fragrance sank into his heart. It was a perfect match for the scent he'd been searching for.
Overjoyed, Shen Siyue offered to buy it for a high price.
Xuan Ning blinked her bright, limpid eyes, looking puzzled. "These are all varieties I've rejected. Are you sure you want one?"
Realizing that the woman before him was the plant breeder, Shen Siyue smiled. "To you, it's a failed creation. To me, it's a rare treasure."
Later, as they spent every day together, feelings began to blossom.
The perfume Shen Siyue created won the gold medal at an international perfume competition. He named it "Xuan Ning."
After the competition, the host asked him what "Xuan Ning" meant. His eyes crinkled with a tender smile.
"It's the name of the person I love."
