Spoilers below: Wu Suo was originally a god. Over the long course of his life, his divinity became tainted by darkness. The god was so lonely that he lost his love for the world. He fell asleep and drifted into another timeline, the modern world, yet still couldn't find what he wanted.
Xihe was born from the world's consciousness. While life slept, he observed countless years and fell in love with the god, his admiration turning into possessiveness. To find the love of the god who had created the world, he traveled through time and space to find and heal him.
Having once been cherished by the god, of course he could hope to warm him in return.
