[Prince of Tennis] Her Light

The day little Miyamoto Nai ran away from home, her short hair was a mess from being yanked, her face was bruised, and visible cuts and bruises covered her body.

Still, she made her way to the lake in the park with practiced ease, ready to sit there all afternoon until nightfall, when the only man in her family would leave to go drinking and womanizing.

She saw a little boy with rosy lips and white teeth, wearing an air of refinement behind his mask. He sat quietly with a cold little face, fishing. There was an empty seat beside him, though she didn't know who it belonged to.

The boy saw her too, and... the sorry state she was in.

Later, he took her to get her wounds treated, bought her the first and most delicious bowl of tonkotsu ramen she'd ever eaten, then ruffled her tangled hair like an older brother.

Miyamoto Nai thought her mother was the gentlest person in the world. Now, she'd found a second one.

He was like a light.

"What's your name?" "Tezuka Kunimitsu."

"I'm Nana."

Later still, only one light remained in Murakami Naiki's life.

That light was Tezuka Kunimitsu.

She gave everything she had and fought with all her might, just to touch the light she could never hope to reach.

I am a filthy, broken thing that lives only for others. You are a flower atop a mountain peak. If I can't have you, should I rot alone, or drag you down into the abyss with me?

Theme: No matter how deeply she sinks into a repulsive swamp, there will always be a light to shine on her and a hand to pull her free.
