So You Were Here All Along

I think this is Zhang Ailing's most beautiful short piece. Reading it again after all this time left me overwhelmed with emotion. I love it so much that I wanted to make it longer. But after writing just two sentences, I realized the original was better: not a single word was extra, and every punctuation mark served a purpose. Adding a few words would only spoil it. I suppose I just copied it out to calm my excitement. There are so few good pieces, and Zhang Ailing is so talented.
