Society's Mount Shu

"As students of the 276th generation of Mount Shu, I hope you'll keep up the good work and carry on the fine traditions of those who came before us, reaching new heights in the coming week!" the old principal, sporting a little goatee, declared in Mandarin thick with a local accent at Monday's flag-raising ceremony.

Qian Tu, a temporary humanities teacher for the elite class standing at the end of the line, grumbled inwardly: What a ridiculously impressive 276th generation! Are you aiming for the heavens? Other private colleges try to affiliate themselves with famous universities. Are you trying to affiliate yourselves with the legendary heroes of Mount Shu?

Looking back afterward, all Qian Tu could say was...

I was still so naive!
