Jiang Luoye survived a bus accident in which the vehicle overturned and plunged into a river. His last memory before losing consciousness was of his "roommate," who had been traveling with him, pushing him to shore before being swept away by the current.
After waking up in the hospital, Jiang Luoye couldn't remember his "roommate's" face or name, no matter how hard he tried. There was no such person on the passenger list, either.
His classmates came to visit and told him that he'd always lived in the school dormitory. He'd never rented a place off campus, so it was impossible for him to have a roommate.
After being discharged, Jiang Luoye went to the address he remembered. There was nothing there but an unfinished building that had been abandoned for years.
It all seemed like a hallucination and a muddled memory brought on by being near death...
Until, on his way back, Jiang Luoye passed the scene of a horrific multi-car accident and picked up a game entry ticket covered in blood.
This is a game where people willingly stake their lives for the chance to change their fate. Those who lose all their chips will disappear from the world. The grand prize for the ultimate winner is "a new life."
Jiang Luoye believes someone once gave everything for him. He decides to find that person.
The game worlds are full of danger, the rules are full of traps, teammates are bizarre, and his golden finger is temperamental. But the expert at clearing levels, Jiang Luoye, says none of that is a problem.
There's only one thing that bothers him: why do the final bosses in every instance feel just a little bit familiar...?
Later, a legend starts circulating on the game's internal forum:
There's a mysterious player with countless powerful items and a perfect record. Teammates who've worked with him won't talk about what happened, and enemies who offend him either vanish mysteriously or die horribly. The instances he clears are completely destroyed and permanently shut down, and he even runs off with the instance bosses. Truly terrifying!
The legendary Jiang "Instance Destroyer" "Home-Raiding Maniac" "Kidnapper" Luoye: "..."
All he does is fight monsters and follow the plot like an ordinary person. At most, he uncovers a few hidden endings. When has he ever done anything like wiping out his enemies or robbing their homes?
A huge beast with fearsome scales lies at his feet, chin resting on its crossed forepaws as it lazily yawns.
Jiang Luoye doesn't bat an eye. "This is a dog I happened to bring home."
A cocoon woven from strands of blood hangs deep within the dim hall. It slowly contracts and throbs like a heart, pumping thick, icy liquid in every direction.
Jiang Luoye smiles. "This is a home decoration I happened to bring back."
A shadow darker than darkness moves behind the night, lowering black fishing lines toward the lost souls wandering below. Every star is a dangerous bait, a greedy, blinking eye staring at him through countless overlapping dreams.
Jiang Luoye hesitates. "This one..."
A chalk-white arm reaches out from the shadow and rests on his shoulder. A voice, polite and amused, introduces itself: "I'm the boyfriend he happened to reunite with after a long separation and bring home."

* The premise has been saved. The title and blurb may change often during the pre-release period, but the main idea won't.
