(SD Sendo/Rukawa) The Wind Blows, the Horses Whinny

A danmei work inspired by the Japanese manga Slam Dunk. Readers unfamiliar with danmei or sensitive to it should proceed with caution.

Set on the Mongolian grasslands in the late nineteenth century, this story follows a failed political reform led by Sendoh, a noble young man who has just returned from studying in the capital, and Rukawa, the heir to a prince's estate. Of course, in the end, no one wins. ^^.

Excerpt:

Just then, the distant clatter of hoofbeats came from outside the gate, growing closer and clearer with every moment, as if each beat landed right on Sendoh's heart.

Then came the long whinny of a horse coming to a stop. He heard Rukawa's horse, tied up outside the gate, throw back its head and neigh too. Its cry sounded both joyful and mournful.

It was like someone suddenly seeing a beloved friend or relative after a long separation, overjoyed for a moment, then suddenly overcome with sorrow.

Sendoh felt a pang in his heart. Tears fell silently down his cheeks.

He hurriedly wiped them away, smiled, left the room, and walked toward the sunlit gate.
