The Empress Dowager Only Wants to Be a Widow

Su Su transmigrated into a novel about a beloved heroine caught in a battle for her affections, and gained the enviable halo of the female lead. The shabby beggar she picked up by the roadside would become the future Grand Secretary. The fallen heir she was about to break off her engagement with would become the future ruler of the country. Her childhood friend, a hotheaded young man, would become the future general who guarded the nation. Even the brat she occasionally met while brawling in the street was a crown prince from a neighboring kingdom who had been missing for years... Faced with this perfect script, Su Su was ready to make her mark and claim both handsome men and riches. But an accident left her unconscious. When she woke again, ten years had already passed... She had become the empress, the mother of all under heaven. Su Su thought she had slept straight through to the happy ending, where she could eat and drink to her heart's content and live in carefree luxury. Who could have guessed that when she woke from another nap... The emperor was dead. She was now the empress dowager. Grand Secretary: The late emperor's death was suspicious, and the young prince is too young to understand anything. If the empress dowager takes control of the government, she will be a great threat to our dynasty. She should be executed. General: The late emperor's body is not even cold, yet I am already leading a hundred thousand troops back to the capital to support the new emperor's accession. I will not let that wicked woman get her way. A certain prince: The emperor of Nanling has died, and Nanling is on the verge of collapse. In a few days, I will personally lead troops south to reclaim the lands of our Qi Kingdom... Su Su: ??? What happened to the beloved-heroine story? Later... Foreign envoy: Empress Dowager, our country's Third Prince ascended the throne last month and has withdrawn his troops thirty li to the border. His Majesty says he is willing to offer the entire Qi Kingdom as your bride price, if only Your Highness will marry him. Chief Eunuch: Empress Dowager, the Great General has already led his troops into the Qi Kingdom's camp. He says he will bring back the Qi emperor's head and marry you. Young palace maid: Empress Dowager, the Regent says he's going to rebel... Su Su: No, thank you. I only want to remain a widow! Late Emperor: Help me up! I can live another five hundred years! Author's content warnings: 1. The heroine is an empress dowager and a widow. The male lead may have been married before, too, so readers who mind this should enter with caution. The ending will be one-on-one. 2. This is set in a completely fictional world. It's a light, sweet story meant purely for fun, so there's no need to nitpick the details. Theme: No matter how difficult things get, stay true to yourself to earn others' trust.
