The Chief’s Hamster Battle Pet [Interstellar]

The planet is invaded by the Taters and devastated by a catastrophe resembling the apocalypse. Facing a survival crisis, some humans awaken supernatural abilities. People also discover that finding a mutated beast whose consciousness resonates with their own can double their combat power. These animals are known as battle companions. Shu Xiaohui is a little different from everyone else. When the Taters invade, he turns into a hamster, and quietly senses the presence of another powerful being… Chen Chengduo watches as his companions find fearsome beasts to serve as their battle companions, and keeps wondering where his own is. Then one day, he spots Shu Xiaohui in the corner, cheeks stuffed with sunflower seeds… Everyone else has a battle companion, but his is just a pet, right? Hamster: Y-You may think I’m small, but I have a luck buff! I recommend my friend Jiahan’s new story, The Little Hamster’s Journey to Find a Master. It’s adorable: a timid little hamster versus a shameless immortal. Here’s the blurb: The little hamster has been working hard at cultivating immortality. At long last, one day he dreams that an immortal has visited him in a vision. The next day, he decides to go out and find a master. The moment he pokes out of his burrow, he sees a tomato that has gained sentience… Terrified, he scurries back home and trembles. Three days later, he bravely ventures outside again, only for the landlord to grab him by the tail as soon as he sticks his head out. He’s going to find a master! He can’t be fed to the neighbor’s cat! The little hamster: “Squeak, squeak, squeak!” The landlord: “Oh, you want me to take you as my apprentice? You’ll have to become a spirit first. You’re not qualified yet.” … The little hamster peels sunflower seeds. “Immortal, Immortal, can I become your apprentice today?” The landlord munches on sunflower seeds, strokes the little hamster’s ears, and says with a smile, “Not yet. You haven’t learned to tuck your ears and tail away.” Oh dear, then he’ll have to work even harder at cultivating! P.S. If you can’t find the story by its title, search for the author Jiahan and check the first story in her collection. I also have a bunch of completed stories.
