"My whole life has been bound up with this factory!"
A woman gazed ahead with sorrow on her face. She wore a black dress with a small floral print and carried a purse over one arm. She was an elegant middle-aged woman, but the hand caressing a tree on the wall betrayed her age. It was thin and sallow, with veins showing and rough skin marked by clear creases. She was already in her fifties.
The tree had climbed right over the wall. Back then, even after its roots had been dug up, it had somehow sprouted anew. Now its branches covered the entire wall. The tree had stubbornly kept growing, but this factory was about to go under.
"This factory is my whole life!" She gently stroked a branch again and murmured.
Why had she come here? Because of this factory!
She had worked here for twenty years, started a family here, and set out from here...
No! She couldn't let the factory go under just like that. There was boundless joy in challenging fate! Just as when she had boarded the train heading south all those years ago, she once again found her fighting spirit, even though she was nearing retirement.
This is the story of a group of young intellectuals sent to support border regions.
They were sent to support the border regions, not sent-down youth. They were a group of educated young people sent to work in frontier areas, overlooked by many but with plenty of stories to tell.

You're also welcome to check out my ongoing novel, After Being Offered as a Virgin Sacrifice. Here's the blurb:
"Hoo, hey, hoo, hey, " Thunderous voices rang out from every direction. Everyone's face was alight with excitement and hope as they shouted in unison.
Before them stood a raised platform, with eight bronze drums packed tightly along its left and right sides. Their dense arrangement gave a powerful sense of confinement, silently telling him, "There's no escape!"
"Escape?" The word flashed through his mind, jolting Tong Xin to his senses. He struggled instinctively, only to find he had no strength left at all.
Suddenly, the surroundings fell so silent that even the wind could not be heard. The strange man on the platform had crossed his hands over his chest and was chanting under his breath.
"They're going to burn him alive!"
"This... this is... the scene from Grandpa's notebook!"
This was a sacrificial ritual, and he was the virgin boy!
Theme: A tribute to those who went to support the border regions
They still have to send money back, can't Second Sister-in-law and the others support themselves? Speechless
This is not a novel, it is documentary literature! Very cool! People of that era had unique experiences, which were very touching!
It's strange that there aren't many collections of such good articles.
It's very interesting. Can you continue writing? There are very few such themes
[Pink Heart] Is this the end? Not enough
Spread the flowers Spread the flowers Spread the flowers
It's so carefully written, it's so painful to read.
It's amazing. I don't know how much information I need to look up to write this. It's not easy.
Alas, it was indeed not easy for capitalists and landlords in that era, especially those who were kind and relied on their ancestors' gospel to spread the word. It was so miserable for those who did not leave.
Why hasn't it been updated for so long? You won't abandon the article!
