The Best of Us

Background: Since the war between gods and demons, most of the ancient High Gods have returned to chaos. The Mother Goddess also passed away early after suffering complications during pregnancy. A hundred thousand years ago, the Father God passed away and transformed his second son, Ye Hua, into a golden lotus, entrusting him to his eldest legitimate son, Mo Yuan, to nurture. Sixty thousand years later, after Mo Yuan had carefully tended to him, Ye Hua took human form. That year, Mo Yuan was 250,000 years old. Twenty thousand years later, his only female disciple would ascend the mountain to become his student...

That only female disciple was Bai Qian of Qing Qiu. At the time, she was 30,000 years old and roamed the four seas and eight lands with her fourth brother, High God Bai Zhen, causing all sorts of trouble. Every immortal she had ever pranked remembered her breathtaking beauty. And so, over the two thousand years between her first and third ten-thousandth birthdays, her title as the most beautiful woman in the four seas and eight lands became firmly established. The Fox Emperor and Empress thought their only daughter had been terribly spoiled by Bai Zhen and Zhe Yan. They worried that her future in-laws would look down on her after she married, so, at their old friend Zhe Yan's suggestion, they planned to send Bai Qian to Kunlun Mountain when she turned 50,000, to become a disciple of Mo Yuan, the War God who never had dealings with women. They hoped she would learn some impressive skills, so that no one in her future husband's family could best her and she would never have to suffer. Kunlun Mountain never accepted female disciples, but Zhe Yan had no intention of disguising Bai Qian as a boy and sending her there. He planned to dump the clever, rambunctious little troublemaker on Mo Yuan for good. He was sure Mo Yuan would like her...

But plans couldn't keep up with change. Bai Qian's parents were deeply in love, and before long, they had a sixth child, also a girl. The Fox Emperor and Empress loved girls, but their fifth child had been spoiled rotten
