Tan Meng has a level-nine ability, except it's not very reliable. It appears and disappears, and is always playing hide-and-seek with her.
In an age when people with stable abilities are expected to work hard and contribute to society, Tan Meng's ability has made her the target of ridicule for as long as she can remember. After graduation, she simply holed up in her rental apartment and became an illustrator.
She didn't have to talk to people or deal with them, and she could support herself. It was practically her dream life.
As the saying goes, dreams are made to be broken.
Ma Shang, Tan Meng's new neighbor, a former criminal investigator injured in the line of duty and a newly appointed officer at the Nanshan Police Station, successfully broke up her wonderful life.
Years later, with a baby in her arms, Tan Meng watches Ma Shang diligently do the housework and deeply regrets opening the door to accept a housewarming gift from her new neighbor out of politeness.
If she hadn't opened the door, she wouldn't have had to help him feed his cat, wouldn't have accidentally caught a fugitive with him, and might even have avoided nearly ruining the wetland park...
But if she hadn't opened the door, how would she have known that someone in this world could understand her so well? He could read her uncertain gestures, understand the confusion in her eyes, recognize the anger she couldn't put into words, and uncurl the fists she kept tightly clenched.
When she's with him, even the silence in the air tastes sweet.
Little Scene:
After finishing the big clean-up, Ma Shang slumped onto the sofa and watched Tan Meng daydream. He took the baby from her arms.
"What are you thinking about?"
"I'm thinking that when you knocked on my door back then, I should have pretended I wasn't home."
"No way! I would've kept knocking until you had to open the door. Honestly, when you saw me back then, weren't you struck by how handsome I was? If you'd missed out on me, I bet you'd have cried until your bedding was soaked."
"Shameless!"
"Tell me the truth. If you don't, tonight I'll really make sure your bedding is soaked through~"
[Upcoming Novel: The Immortals' Retirement Home] Blurb:
Nothing in this world can withstand the passage of time.
Mortals grow old, and even immortals grow old.
Erlang Shen has become a middle-aged man with a beer belly, and Xiaotian Dog can no longer bite through bones.
The Supreme Old Lord's eyesight is so poor he can't read his pill recipes.
The Four Dragon Kings keep misreading the decimal points in the rain orders Heaven gives them.
…
On her first day at work, Mi Zidong catches her boss's brother-in-law groping a woman on the subway. After turning him over to the police, she loses her job before she can even start.
Her family's factory is on the verge of bankruptcy, and weeds have overgrown their land. The eldercare industry is booming, so she puts the land up as collateral and launches an ambitious retirement-home business.
Then she discovers that the "people" she's taken in are a little unusual.
One old man blows up a pill furnace in his room every day.
Four old men weep that they fathered 120 dragon descendants, only to end up in this state.
A rabbit taller than a person chips half a tooth while eating a carrot and bursts into tears on the spot...
To put an end to the growing resentment and gloomy atmosphere at the retirement home, Mi Zidong decides to lead everyone into the city's senior-citizen square-dancing competition.
The Supreme Old Lord twirls a red handkerchief in one hand and waves a blue-green fan in the other, stepping through a Yangge dance.
Xiaotian Dog has a big red silk flower tied to its back and leaps up and down to bite the embroidered ball ahead.
Chang'e wears a bright red top and a vivid green skirt, twirling her long, flowing sleeves.
The stage is a jubilant sight.
The audience sits in silence.
Theme: Life is hard, but remember to smile.
What the hell is the last chapter? It's a complete mess and a waste of money.
There is no copywriting content at all...
Thanks to Xiaohongshu's tweet for letting us meet (Bi Xin)
Is this gone? There are so many holes that have not been filled.
I have already forgotten what I said before.
The idea is good, but the writing in the back is a bit watery. The most annoying thing is that every supporting character is given a name, including the mother-in-law and mother of the female supporting character who only appear in two or three chapters.
It's hard to tell who is who after everyone's name is written. It's better to just write Grandma Tan, Third Uncle Tan, and Second Aunt Tan. Adding names only adds a few characters.
Zhao Muyue's mother and mother-in-law both deliberately wrote their names to look very dramatic.
Although this chapter is very sad, I have a bold idea. This power can work part-time in the Four Loves Happy House to turn girls' phantom limbs into reality...
