Are You After the Throne?

Ever since the new emperor ascended the throne, rumors about him and Prince An have never stopped.

They say that one day, Prince An stormed into the new emperor’s bedchamber in a fury, and the emperor summoned a large force of soldiers. After a fierce fight, Prince An won and swaggered out. But he was also badly injured: he’d lost one shoe, his clothes were disheveled, and he walked a little strangely.

They say that on another day, the new emperor hosted Prince An at a banquet. The two disagreed and came to blows. Prince An’s lip was split, and he walked just as strangely as before.

Eunuch Sanbao gazed sadly at the sky. He knew the truth, but he couldn’t say a thing.

[Side story: Ministers Worry Themselves Sick]

An Yuan was getting too brazen, so a minister proposed a plan: poison him and be done with it!

Yuan Qi stared at the poisoned wine on the table, his gaze flickering slightly. Then he personally fed it to An Yuan.

And so An Yuan fell, looking utterly shocked.

The next morning, Yuan Qi walked out of the palace. A minister who had waited all night asked, “Your Majesty, did it work?”

Yuan Qi (nodding vigorously): “My great revenge is complete.”

Minister (looking bewildered): “???? How can I not quite believe that?”

Then he saw An Yuan emerge, his face dark with anger.

Minister: “!!!!!”

I thought you said you’d poison him! What were you doing in there last night?
