All things have a spirit, and the Way gives rise to the myriad things. Humans are known as the wisest of all creatures, but plants and animals can also absorb and circulate spiritual energy until they become spirits. We call them demons. The path to cultivation is harder for demons than for humans, fraught with tribulations. The seven emotions and six desires, greed, anger, delusion, and obsession all stand in the way of attaining the Way. Some demons choose to sever all feelings and love, attaining the Way and ascending to immortality. Others cannot bear to leave the bustling human world, choosing to destroy their own demonic spirits for the sake of love.
