Getting Promoted

Prince Ning: "I've long guarded the frontier, rendered great service to the court, and remained utterly loyal. But I'm tired of being a prince and want to try another official post."

Duan Chu stammered. The only position higher and more powerful than a prince was the emperor's, wasn't it???

Holy crap, was this guy trying to usurp the throne?

But wait, he just said he had no ulterior motives????

Duan Chu was thoroughly confused. "May I ask what higher office Your Highness has in mind?"

Prince Ning tilted his head slightly and met Duan Chu's gaze from the highest seat. His thin lips parted. "I want to be empress."

Duan Chu was thunderstruck. H-h-h-holy crap?
