A Transmigrator's Monologue

A sudden burst of inspiration, a very short story, a transmigrator's self-questioning about love.

This is a rant that doesn't have much to do with this story. Lately, I've been trying not to be all talk and no action, and also to improve my writing, so I've been looking up a lot of material about gay people online. I feel like the overall climate is still far from welcoming. But I still don't want to write a realistic story where the two of them marry other women and suffer in the harshness of reality. I don't even want to write the kind where, in order to earn their parents' understanding, they spend ten or twenty years suffering, until time finally makes their parents relent and the two get together. Whether I'm writing straight romance or danmei, I think I'll always write stories with one devoted couple, equally matched, and a happy ending. It's not easy to survive, and the world is harsh. Being alive is already a stroke of luck. Why make yourself miserable in a novel? I don't write sweet stories to hide away in a utopia, but to paint a picture of an ideal world that can exist, and isn't far away.

Whew, writing this in the only short story I've written with a tragic ending is a little embarrassing. Actually, this isn't a complete story, but the prequel to all my sweet romances. That's right, we might not have ended up together in our past lives, but in this life, we'll make it work.
