[Blurb]
The young woman raised the bloodied boy's chin with the toe of her embroidered shoe, narrowing her lovely, limpid eyes. "Do you know your place? Hmm?"
The boy began to tremble. He turned his head away and pressed his lips together.
With amused interest, the young woman used her foot to turn his head back. Her voice turned icy. "Lost your tongue? Weren't you so mighty just now?"
He still said nothing. His body remained ramrod straight, resisting the pressure she exerted.
"Know your place, A Qin."
Her shoe slowly lowered, sinking into the mud.
At last, the boy couldn't take it anymore. He spat out a mouthful of blood and clenched his bloodstained clothes in his fist.
She turned and walked away without mercy, not noticing the light fading from the boy's eyes behind her.
"If you still consider yourself the young master of the Divine Extremity Palace, stop following me."
"You're sending me away?" His eyes held neither sorrow nor joy, only cold detachment.
"What," the young woman said, glancing at him, "can't I?"
He lowered his gaze, and for some reason the tips of his ears turned red.
"I am your Dao Companion."
"Perhaps Father God was confused for a moment... This venerable one doesn't need a Dao Companion."
His face turned pale, and his lowered lashes trembled.
"Bai Bai, I was destined for you from the moment I was born. Ever since I left the Divine Extremity Palace at twelve, I've never thought of going back."
He paused. "You can't treat me like this."
