What would this world be like if there were no killing and no wars? We’d live together in a little courtyard, with vibrant wisteria climbing all over the walls. We’d go hunting during the day and fall asleep cuddled up together at night. You’d drape your arm over me, and I’d smile helplessly, put an arm around your shoulders, and sleep soundly until the sun rose. We’d hunt in the deep mountains. Sometimes a chubby little rabbit would fall into one of our traps. You’d sigh, walk over, pick it up, and release it back into the forest. Then the next day, you’d shake your head at the foolish rabbit when it fell into the trap again. When a festival came around, we’d go into town together to see the lights twinkling in every home, glowing softly in the dusk. You’d linger in front of the candied hawthorn stall, unwilling to leave, so I’d have to pull out my purse and buy a skewer for you. You’d smile at me, utterly content. We could adopt a child and teach him to read and write, and how to use swords, spears, staves, and clubs. He’d never want to stand still and practice his stances, so you’d threaten him with his favorite picture book, and he’d have no choice but to do as you said. We’d have so much time to plan for the future. We’d have a whole lifetime. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?
