Information about Vampires

The English word for vampire is “vampire,” meaning a zombie or a blood-sucking demon. Vampires are famous monsters in the Western world, and are called monsters because they occupy an awkward place: they are neither gods nor devils, and certainly not human. It is as if they have been abandoned by God, a notion vividly portrayed in the film Interview with the Vampire. As demonic figures closely tied to humanity, since vampires usually hide among people, they were depicted in the legends of their first few centuries as strange, terrifying, and fantastical. Over the past hundred years, with the rise of Romantic literature and film, the mysterious and beautiful vampire has become an enduring cultural fascination: a peculiar demon of the night, shifting from religious belief to sensual worship.

Nowadays, “vampire” is mainly used as a metaphor for people who exploit others' labor, take their money, or plunder their ideas and other resources.
