At the front of the banquet hall, Akashi Seijuro, the group's honorary chairman, was giving a speech.
In a corner, Yazawa Haruna stood by the buffet, the chocolate cake in her hand reduced to one lonely bite.
Beneath the domed ceiling, Sudo Yue wore a crimson gown with a long train, like an upside-down red spider lily, blooming in a brilliant scarlet that took root in everyone's eyes. Holding a slender champagne flute, she whispered into Hakuba Saguru's left ear, her eyes shimmering with a heart-stirring tenderness.
A perfect match.
How enviable.
But to Yazawa Haruna, they were as nauseating as a dead fly.
Ten minutes later:
On the sparsely populated second-floor corridor, Yazawa Haruna had lost her way.
She heard rustling behind the dark curtains at the far end. Gently lifting one edge, she glimpsed a disheveled suit jacket on the floor through the gap.
Red-haired Akashi Seijuro braced one hand on the table and used the other to tug off the dark gray tie around his neck. Beneath a fiery, radiant red skirt, two legs as white as magnolia blossoms hooked around his waist and pulled him toward the table. Two swathes of red twined together in a deadly, poisonous whirlpool.
Sudo Yue.
