My Wife Is Handsomer Than Me

[Pen name changed: formerly "Meow Cub Wants to Eat Grass"~ More completed romance stories with male leads can be found in my collection!] Xiang Nantian graduated from university in modern times and went off to become a village official. One dark, slippery night, he went up the mountain to help a local find a lost goat, only to tumble off a cliff. When he opened his eyes again, he realized he'd fallen a very long way: from 2017 into an unknown ancient era.

With a poor, threadbare home, a gravely ill mother, and a frail little sister to support, Xiang Nan took the original owner's book-thin body up the mountain to hunt. He nearly became prey to a wild boar, but at the critical moment, a handsome young woman rescued him.

The young woman looked him up and down, then gave him a mysterious smile. "You saved my life, so I'll repay you by marrying you. You're Xiang, the scholar from Xinghua Village, right?"

Xiang Nan was stunned, and just like that, he had a beautiful, dashing, and heroic wife.

When it came time to study for the imperial examinations, his wife slung on her bow and arrows and escorted him to the prefectural city, her belly swollen with child.

When he was posted to a remote, barren region, his wife strapped her precious saber to her waist and protected him, children in tow.

Xiang Nan [hesitantly]: Wife, what do you think my purpose is?

The young woman [pondering hard, then suddenly understanding]: To sow seeds, carry babies, and pass on your good looks. Our family depends on you for all of that.

Reader's guide:

1. This story came to me while I was planning The Phoenix Man. I originally thought I'd save it for later, but this story can fill the gap for now.

2. Before it's locked, there will be two chapters a day, updated at 9 a.m. and noon. After it goes premium, I'll decide whether to keep updating three chapters a day based on whether people like it.

3. This is sort of an ancient version of The Phoenix Man, but the protagonist doesn't transmigrate into a book. He simply transmigrates. In a way, it's a story with a weak man and a strong woman, my new guilty pleasure [evil grin].

4. Like The Phoenix Man, I'll start this story and finish it before moving on to another.

5. The male lead doesn't have much ambition, and the female lead is strikingly heroic. Since society prizes frail, willow-like women and a sickly beauty, she has always thought she was ugly. She's captivated by her husband's looks and is determined to have several children so they can inherit his beauty.

6. No melodrama, not a wish-fulfillment story, and still a quiet, understated style. No cheating.

7. Don't make fun of my naming skills. I'll be waiting for my little angels to help me come up with names [sits obediently].

8. Search Weibo for "Jinjiang Meow Cub Wants to Eat Grass" to find me. Feel free to follow me, though I often forget it exists :)

9. If you think this story is too short, check out my completed story next door, The Phoenix Man [obligatory self-promotion].
