Passing Through Autumn

In 1926, Biqi and Lu Yuanqiu met again. This time, however, Biqi had fallen to a lowly status, while Lu Yuanqiu had risen to become an official in the Hong Kong government. Lu Yuanqiu rescued Li Chenhuai from prison. Biqi only thanked him, saying nothing more, as if they had never met. Lu Yuanqiu wanted to apologize, but couldn't find the words.

Later, Li Chenhuai went to the mainland as an exchange student for a month. By chance, Lu Yuanqiu saw someone bullying Biqi and took her home, saying she could leave whenever Li Chenhuai returned. During that time, they encountered Chen Nanming. Zhixu also came by, filled with countless emotions. Her husband, however, had been arrested for opposing the government, along with his companions. Biqi went to plead with Lu Yuanqiu, who finally agreed to release only her brother-in-law. Everyone else died in Hong Kong.

Only then did Biqi realize that Lu Yuanqiu's life had changed. The struggle to survive had made him cold and brutal. In this society, he could only cover himself with the blood of others. But Biqi still loved Lu Yuanqiu, and over time, Lu Yuanqiu too came to feel that he couldn't live without her.

Li Chenhuai later became an opponent of the government as well and was arrested. Biqi went to plead with Wang Jingyuan, the granddaughter of Old Wang, who loved Lu Yuanqiu. Wang Jingyuan naturally told her to leave Hong Kong, and Biqi agreed. In the end, when Wang Jingyuan spoke with Lu Yuanqiu and saw the pain on his face, she regretted it. She told Biqi, "Why don't you stay?" But Biqi had already made up her mind to leave. She said, "Mr. Lu only pities me. He doesn't love me."
