The Fourth Prince was a wastrel. That wasn't really a problem, since compared to his other brothers, he could indeed be called a wastrel. But then the Fourth Prince overheard someone say it. Rather than perish in silence, he chose to explode. The Fourth Prince had had enough.
"Fine. If everyone says I'm a wastrel, then I'll become one! I'll abduct women, fight crickets, gamble on dogs, and lose myself in wine, women, and song. I'll do it all."
But before the Fourth Prince could put his plan to become a decadent prince into action, his father, the current emperor, heard what he'd said. He appointed the very person who had first called him a wastrel to be his tutor in etiquette, poetry, and the classics, and decreed that the tutor could not leave the Fourth Prince's residence until he had set him on the right path. And so, the tutor began his imperial assignment, devoting himself to instructing the Fourth Prince. Before long, he was used to eating and sleeping alongside him. The Fourth Prince's behavior improved considerably, so the emperor even issued an edict praising him.
But things weren't so simple...
