The emperor's aunt, Grand Princess Pingyao, sentenced her husband to death.

When the poisoned wine was brought before him, He Xin sobbed and shouted at the guards closing in:

"I am the consort of Emperor Cheng! His Majesty must show me respect!"

The Grand Princess said, "Emperor Cheng is waiting for you. I'll send you to him."

Everyone said the Grand Princess had poisoned her husband, but in truth, he was strangled to death.

Prince Consort He knocked over the poisoned wine. The Grand Princess ordered white silk brought instead, and four guards seized him and strangled him until his face swelled purple and his eyes turned bloodshot.

Before he died, he learned a secret.

The Grand Princess leaned close to his ear and whispered, "Do you know that I was the one who angered Emperor Cheng to death?"
