Ink of Old

The last time Chen Fengtong met Meng Jingchu, he was only sixteen. He borrowed a love poem by Bai Juyi to write to the girl he loved: "All things have feelings, even plants and trees; better never to have met such captivating beauty."

When they met again, sixteen years had passed, and Chen Fengtong was in the middle of a divorce. The first thing Meng Jingchu said when she saw him was, "You've gotten old."

Chen Fengtong thought, I'm not old. Men weather the years better than women. If you don't accept me soon, you'll really be old.

But Meng Jingchu would never grow old. She had lived from the late Yuan dynasty into the Ming, then from the late Qing into the Republic of China. She had gone from myth to legend.
