In the early years of the Republic of China, the country was engulfed in war. A boy who fled famine was tricked by the proprietress into disguising himself as a girl. Unexpectedly, an accident turned him into a real girl. Not long afterward, the War of Resistance Against Japan broke out. After escaping, she drifted to Shanghai to study, and later returned to Hunan. Soon, the Changsha Fire of 1938 and the Battle of Changsha took place. Her family struggled to get by in Changsha. This winding story draws on real historical events, including the January 28 Incident and the Battle of Shanghai, the 1939 Battle of Changsha, the Changsha Fire of 1938, and the eventual victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan in 1945... The story spans 27 years, from 1920 to 1946.
Theme: In that arduous period, the Chinese people fought fiercely at their most perilous hour, demonstrating an indomitable spirit.
This book is my first full-length novel that I completed after ten years of polishing. I think it is so wonderful that I can't bear to put it down.
