The circle in Jiangcheng isn't big, but it isn't small either. A joke has been going around lately:
-- The illegitimate daughter of the Jiang family, who was only recently brought back, shamelessly latched onto Zhou Shiye and claimed she was carrying his child.
"Doesn't she know her place?" someone said with a quiet laugh behind their hand. "Does she really think she can marry into the Zhou family?"
"Who knows which stranger fathered that little bastard? And she dares to pin it on Young Master Zhou."
Jiang Jin's eyes reddened, and her voice was as soft as a mosquito's. Her hand trembled as she clutched the man's clothes. "Zhou Shiye... I'm scared..."
Zhou Shiye peeled her pale fingers away one by one. Everyone held their breath, waiting for him to humiliate her.
No one expected him to carefully clasp her little hand in his own, lower his head, and smile warmly. "You've got me on your side. What do you have to be afraid of?"

The banquet ended, and the black car drove on in silence.
In the back seat, Jiang Jin crossed her legs and expertly pulled out a cigarette.
The lighter clicked. Jiang Jin smiled, cool and distant. "Thanks for playing along, Mr. Zhou. You're a pretty good actor."
Zhou Shiye gave a faint, crooked smile.
The cigarette tip glowed a dull red, brightening and dimming.
Zhou Shiye reached over, firmly took the cigarette from her hand, and drew deeply on it.
"Tsk, Young Master Zhou, that's not very nice. It's just one cigarette..."
Before she could finish, Zhou Shiye clamped a hand around her delicate chin. Forced to tilt her head back, she received a mouthful of strong smoke from his lips and began coughing violently.
"A little compensation." He gently bit her lip. "Miss Jiang, you're welcome to visit again."

Many years later, Zhou Shiye thought again of the slap that landed on his face.
Tsk. Sharp and loud.
He pressed his thumb to her lips and rubbed hard, smearing the woman's bright red lipstick toward the corner of her mouth.
He bit her earlobe, his voice tender and dangerous. "You could slap me for the rest of your life and still never make up for that one."
A few more things:
1. The heroine is a black-hearted lotus, not a good person. Her innocent-white-lotus act is all fake.
2. They get together first and make it official later. The leads try to out-act each other, and watching the old dog mess up is the most exciting part. (Dog head)
