(Wei Nie) The Great Wilderness: Southern Classic Arc [The Legend of Qin Fanfiction]

The Classic of the Southern Great Wilderness contains a passage titled "Maple Tree on Mount Song," which says: "There is a Mount Song, home to a red snake called the Nurturing Snake. A tree grows on the mountain, and it is called the maple tree."

When chaos gave way to heaven and earth, all things first gained sentience.

Eight thousand years passed. The heavens reached their highest point, and the earth its deepest.

Tens of thousands of years later, in the time of the ancient Great Wilderness, Gonggong toppled Mount Buzhou. The sky collapsed, the earth split apart, and the land was submerged beneath the sea. Only scattered islands remained, giving rise to the saying, "the Four Seas and Eight Wilds."

In the center of the land, east of Kunlun, a mountain appeared at some point. The Yan Emperor and the Yellow Emperor formed an alliance and fought Chiyou at Zhuolu. Chiyou was defeated and captured by the Yellow Emperor, who shackled and killed him. The shackles that had imprisoned Chiyou were left on Mount Song. From them, a tree took root, its branches reaching toward the Big Dipper and its roots sinking into the life-sustaining soil.

And so a tree grew on the mountain.

At some point, a black snake began to make its home in the hollow of his tree.
