A Woman Should Marry When She's Grown (Final Revised Edition)

Song Lingyun is an unremarkable-looking young woman with a gentle disposition. At a family banquet, she meets the ill-tempered and mysterious boy Qi Yunlei, and learns that their parents arranged the meeting. Each of them is keeping an unspoken secret. At school, Lingyun and Yunlei go from indifference toward one another to a growing attraction. Lingyun’s childhood friend, Murong Jingchen, is also Qi Yunlei’s close friend, leaving Lingyun caught between the two. Qi Yunlei’s father, Qi Xiuyuan, seems to take an unusual interest in Lingyun and deliberately invites her to read the three handwritten volumes of Nü Da Dang Jia in his collection. As she reads, Lingyun learns that her father, Yunlei’s father, and Jingchen’s father were close friends twenty years ago, and that all three encountered a girl named Liu Yunrong... What complicated events took place twenty years ago to drive their fathers so far apart? And why are Lingyun and Yunlei’s names so similar? The romantic entanglements of the previous generation seem to echo through Lingyun and her friends’ lives as well. There is the mysterious and beautiful Li Yushang, the outgoing and warmhearted An Biru, the graceful and perceptive Liu Kangni, the fiery and radiant Mei Lanjiao, and the honest, devoted An Bixin... Beneath the tender warmth of university friendships, tensions quietly mount. Scheming, deception, and hurt feel all too real and cruel in this half-grown world. Everyone wants to make their own life dazzling, and to take control of other people’s fates. But the bleak ending makes everything seem far too fleeting.
