A prince with neither virtue nor talent unexpectedly inherits the throne, only to face a realm in chaos. Yet he rules for decades and, even after losing half his empire, dies a natural death. He fought off foreign invaders, then after his defeat, shamefully submitted to foreign powers, paid tribute, and gave a princess in marriage. He ruled the people cruelly, favored corrupt officials and eunuchs, indulged in pleasure and neglected state affairs, squandered wealth without restraint, and treated the realm as his personal property. He seized the most beautiful women in the land without limit, even violating the natural order. Yet he was also the greatest lover in the realm, devoted to an incomparable beauty and enamored of talented, accomplished women regardless of their origins. He was certainly not a good emperor, but neither was he a tyrant in the usual sense. He was a reflection of the many emperors in Chinese history, a product of the social system: a freak, yet also an inevitability of history.
I'm going to post two more chapters for fun, haha.
