"You know how, when a woman and a man are together, the woman asks the man, 'Do you love me?' If he says yes, then he doesn't. To like someone is to let go, and to confess is to say goodbye. Form is emptiness, and emptiness is form."
He paused for a long while, then laughed awkwardly. It was obvious he didn't know how to respond. For the first time, he looked flustered in front of me.
Of course he didn't know how to respond. The only way to disprove my conclusion would be to prove that "form and emptiness are not one" is wrong. But just as proving that "form and emptiness are one" means attaining enlightenment, anyone who could disprove it would have to be enlightened too, reaching the realm of a Buddha.
But no one in the world today openly admits to being enlightened, except for con artists. Even Master Nan Huaijin said he was not enlightened. Was this man enlightened, then? What a joke.
He wanted me to prove the unprovable heart, so I would make him prove the unprovable truth.
1. This collection of stories contains the author's thoughts on love from their late teens and early twenties. The writing is rather immature, and I was too embarrassed to show it to anyone, so the chapters stayed locked for a long time. One day, I happened to reread my old writing, made some rough edits, and unlocked it. Read at your own discretion.
2. An annoying first-person narrator.
3. The story has no connection to real life. Please don't read yourself into it.
