I haven't read the original novel. I watched the show entirely because of Zhao Youting's astonishing, transformative performance. I really love the story between Ye Hua and Bai Qian in the TV series. But I can't bear to let go of Mo Yuan, either. He went to sleep too early and woke up too late. This master, whose heart held boundless love and who endured so much in silence, is truly heartbreaking.
If you want something done, do it yourself. I wanted to give Mo Yuan and Bai Qian another chance at love. I drew on the TV series' plot and clues to connect the story, but most of the content is newly imagined. Given my limited writing ability and rushed planning, there are bound to be logical flaws, contrived plot points, and details that fall short. I'm especially bad at capturing the atmosphere of a fantasy world, so please be patient with me as you read. I don't think the Mo Yuan I've written is the one from the original novel, nor is he entirely the one from the TV series. He's more like the Mo Yuan I understand in my heart.
Here's a brief introduction to the novel: It has five chapters, each divided into several sections. From the young Bai Qian to Bai Qian, Queen of Qingqiu, and then to Bai Qian, Heavenly Queen, it attempts to portray the changes and growth in her life brought about by Mo Yuan, her love and heartache, and her choices between the world and herself. I also try to recount parts of their story through the eyes of onlookers like Feng Jiu and Zhe Yan, since sometimes an outsider sees things more clearly. At the same time, Mo Yuan is still Mo Yuan: he always does more than he says. Ye Hua appears in the final two chapters. This is not a happily-ever-after ending. Rather, the characters' personalities determine their fates, and Mo Yuan's choice allows him to get what he sought. Most importantly, he gets to share a bond of mutual understanding with Xiao Shiqi and finally put his regrets to rest.
