A Doctor's Tales from the Seventies

(1) Word is that a pretty female doctor has joined Kun City Second Hospital. She studied traditional Chinese pulse diagnosis and has a habit of telling patients stories. The department head has reprimanded her several times, but she never learns. Who would've thought that a month later: An elderly woman who came in with a toothache heard a story and found the son she'd lost years ago. An old man who came in with insomnia sent his scheming adopted son to the police station. An only daughter who came in with irregular periods discovered that her boyfriend had a pregnant "ex-wife" living with him in the countryside. It's nearly impossible to get an appointment with Doctor Chaoyan. Patients line up at her door, calling out, "Master, please tell my fortune!" Chaoyan: "This is a hospital. If you're sick, get medical care. Superstition is no good. I just like telling stories." Everyone: "You're pretty, so you must be right. We just like listening to your stories." (2) Chaoyan was abandoned outside a Taoist temple as a child and raised by several masters. Just before she graduated from university, she was getting ready to go home and inherit the temple when she suddenly received notice that the Four Olds were to be destroyed and Taoist monks had to return to secular life. Fine, they were lay Taoists anyway, and living outside the temple wouldn't be a problem. She could find a job after graduating. But then her master told her she was already engaged, and that her fiance was entering military academy that year. His family wanted to arrange the wedding. Chaoyan despised her master's attempt to arrange a marriage for her, but decided she might as well go see what the man looked like, just to humor him. In the end, she was amazed. Where had her master found such a handsome, upright man? Was the arranged marriage what she found irresistible? Of course not! It was that face, the kind that could make you eat two extra bowls of rice! Theme: No matter the circumstances, stay true to yourself.
