A Thousand Years of Immortality

New story! Please add it to your favorites. Perhaps I am human, but after living for so long, I no longer know what I am. But let me tell you this: immortality is no blessing. When my child asked me, "Mother, why haven't you aged?" I knew it was time to leave. When my husband, his hair half white, stopped joking and seriously asked me, "Are you a demon?" I knew it was time for us to part. I have tasted more of life's bitterness than anyone, because I am immortal. Once, a monk told me that birth, aging, illness, death, meeting those we resent, parting from those we love, and failing to obtain what we desire all stem from the suffering of the five aggregates. To live is to suffer. If you ever get the chance to become immortal, think very carefully. Otherwise, with your soul undying and your body imperishable, you can take your time savoring the agony of a thousand years of loneliness. If you want to hear my story, we must start in ancient times... That's right, I was Yue Nu, I was Xu Fu... I was also Lu Zhu, and even Consort Zhen. Theme:
