Melissa's Eden [Republican Era]

Melissa was born in the autumn of 1918. The exact date is no longer known. The Mei family had three sons and four daughters, but the proper lady of the house gave birth to only one son and one daughter. Including Melissa, Mr. Mei brought home two sons and four daughters from outside. They were the eldest son, left by his first wife, whose body had floated down the Fuluo River; the younger son, left by his mistress, who ended up in prison; five-year-old Mei Mary; seven-year-old Mei Melissa and Mei Daisy; and nine-year-old Mei Lucy. Melissa wandered from place to place through a war-torn China, changing hands several times. From living under other people's roofs to measuring the world with her own two feet, she witnessed the desperate struggle to survive amid the torrents of the age, as well as the people who shone like pearls embedded in history. There was Zhou Shaoshan, a gentleman who concealed his edge and planned with foresight; He Chengjun, a brilliant strategist and unmatched patriot; Feng Yuxiang, who marched thousands of miles and raced across the Central Plains; Wang Yaqiao, who did as he pleased and never yielded; Shen Mufang and Shen Zui, who threw themselves into the battlefields without hesitation; and Yi Fengji, who sang a tragic farewell at the Yi River and never returned... This world is vast, so very vast, and it has nurtured countless people, each one different from the rest. So why should I stay in just one place? Could I not travel to every corner of the world and see how people live in all its different places? "If I don't have a goal in life, then I'll go find one. I'll travel the world and search for the things I love to do!" Theme: The pearl-like people who shone in a time of war and chaos
