Grace and Prosperity

Due to certain unavoidable circumstances, updates stopped for a year. I'm now resuming the story. I'll first go through the earlier chapters and fix mistakes, then post new chapters. Updates will be slow, so please bear with me! Everyone in Great Chu knows that the realm was won by Empress Dowager Wumu, who fought alongside her son, Emperor Jianzhao, and her younger brother and nephews. The Empress Dowager's maternal family consequently became the undisputed Duke of Zhenguo's household, showered with imperial favor for generations. Shan Yinggui's mother was a legitimate daughter of the Duke of Zhenguo's household, and a famous general who had defended against the Northern Rong. Naturally, Shan Yinggui was devoted to the imperial family, always dreaming of becoming a great general. So when assassins attacked, she stepped forward; when foreign tribes invaded, she donned her armor and went to battle. None of the court officials thought there was anything wrong with this. Only one person felt quite uneasy about it: She was such a sweet little girl when she was young, so how did she grow up to become more and more of a handful? One day she injures her arm fighting assassins, the next she barely wins against the Rong on the battlefield... It's getting harder and harder to put up with. Emperor Jianzhao, now the retired emperor, nodded in agreement. "I too think this is quite improper. As it happens, there is a way to keep Yinggui out of danger. All we need to do is this and that..." After hesitating for a long while, someone blushed and said, "Perhaps we could give it a try." Reader's note: This story is set in an imaginary world. The turmoil of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms after the end of the Tang dynasty was brought to an end early, and a mother and son pacified the realm and named their dynasty Chu. Since the founding empress dowager fought to unify the realm alongside her son, women are allowed to hold office at court. If you like the story, please add it to your favorites.
