All her life, she was troubled by love, brought to ruin by love, obsessed with love, and wounded by love. But in the end, the one thing she could never understand was this single word: love.
In that life, pear blossoms covered every branch on the snowy mountain ridge. Seen from afar, they seemed even colder and lonelier than the snow itself. After a gust of cold wind, it was impossible to tell whether they were snow or petals, yet they still fell upon her heart.
Once, she knew nothing of love. She was wholly devoted to life and death, and though she saw through all worldly affairs, her heart remained empty, without longing or desire.
Only after the pear blossoms had all fallen could she finally understand: why had she, a mere girl of the mortal world, been so stubbornly attached?
Though he conquered all under heaven, he ultimately lost her affection, and their fate could never be renewed in this life.
She wanted so little, just a warm embrace. Nothing more.
But fate played cruel tricks. Perhaps she had given her whole life to the wrong person, or perhaps she truly did not know how to yield. When the pear blossoms bloomed, she smiled like a flower, yet when they had all fallen, her eyes were blurred with tears.
She did not know who had wronged whom in this life. But she knew that she and he were destined only for the grief of parting as the blossoms fell, not to be a loving couple in this mortal world. Their longing played out like a scene, and they would live out the rest of their lives apart, never to be together.
